they are proper strict here. All traffic police vehicles have anpr systems that can check the tax, mot and insurance status of passing vehicles. A fail on any of the 3, you aren't just getting a slap on the wrist
Yeah, generally you get fined here, but sometimes the officers are lenient, but very rarely. And most often people have had their cars impounded for such reasons, or if they fail to pay the fines and let the car sit where they left it for too long, you wouldn't be surprised on what you'd find sitting in the impound lot on some days.
How about a 2001 Nissan Xterra? http://www.kijiji.ca/b-cars-trucks/canada/nissan-xterra-2001/c174l0a54a1000054a68 very good prices in canada! I own a 2001 yellow Xterra. Still running. Has about 140k miles. A very good charm, my opinion. I think you will enjoy the Xterra for being your first vehicle.
Ive got a Triumph Spitfire 1500 as my first. Restoring it with my dad. Bought it for £600 in the summer
If you're going to turn down all the cars you may as well not ask. It's true most cars will have rust as canada salts their roads. My car didn't have rust, but it was owned by my family and has 200k miles. 2000 honda accord that we probably would've sold for ~1.5k maybe. I think I remember hearing that price discussed a couple years back.
The possibility of rust on a car is generally dependent on the frequency of the owner rustproofing the vehicle. Anyways, I found a truck here for $1,000. Has 230,000 km on it, may or may not have rust.
Or somting like a Mazda 626. Depends what you like. I like SUVs because I want to be high off the ground
There is nothing wrong with a Tracker/Vitara, they are extremely tough and practical. My family has had a 5 door Vitara, and owns a 5 door 2002 Grand Vitara with 340,000km (211000 miles) and a 7 seater XL-7 from 2004 we recently purchased with 220,000km on the clock. I think you are going to have difficulty finding something since you poo-poo all these suggestions.
I'm going to sound like a parent here (I assure you, I'm not, and I too hate those sites that say "you should buy your kid a first car based on safety ratings and make sure it has every electronic nanny every thought of, to make sure it's extra boring"), but make sure you have durability and safety. Or at least one of the two. You're a young male, and as one young male to another I'm going to say that that itself makes you a moron. Make sure you get a car that can withstand the abuse, or at least keep you from killing yourself in the process. My hand-me-down Sunbird goes the durability route and has survived abuse that probably would have rendered any Japanese or European equivalent nonfunctional.
I think V6 Camry's are the best first car. why, because of all the reasons the above post has but we can't get US cars here so Camry's are the closest thing to a "generic shit heap" I'd want a manual for my first car, so I'd probably get something a little smaller that had a Manual box.. but if you don't care Camry V6. Flat six Subaru Outbacks are good too. Pity the Forester is only a 2.5L.
Maybe a cheap Miata? Ps: good luck finding a Miata for under $2000 Or maybe get a Volvo wagon Definitely wouldn't be a Toyota AE86
Shame ur not in the UK. A Miata (or MX-5 over here) over here is just over $1000 (proof: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-MAZDA-MX-5-RED-/272100194313?hash=item3f5a6f7809:g:F7YAAOSwaA5WkEJw). For the price ur paying over there for a Miata you can have an RX-8 231 (the more powerful one) over here (Proof; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-MAZD...417621?hash=item41a2d00b55:g:EcgAAOSwoydWkDl0)
