Just offering some advice, and making sure that he's knows that he is NOT going to be making power by taking bits off a modern car with fuel injection and that its best left either completely stock or having to get it professionally tuned so it actually knows what to do with the different airflow.
After have finished to clean up the engine bay of the 403, I have to say, this part of the car seems brand new. Remenber, it's a 1957 car, paid 200€ If you're asking what i'm doing on the car for now, close to, 2 weeks, a lot, a very lot of little things, who doesn't worth mention them. Like list all the pieces, their states...
Well yeah, winter kinda suprised everyone yesterday. In the morning there was no sign of rain or snow and 8 hours later there was over 5cm of snow. And of course I didn't have winter tires on yet. I quite like the stock alloys but they are really rough
I cut it off for the sound. I don't really care if it made it any more powerful (Which it didn't) it just sounds better now. Easily could be a factory optional exhaust system. It should be noted that the 2008-2011 Focus Manual Coupes didn't come with the resonator and made 3 more horsepower than the standard model so I woudn't be shocked if it did gain a hp or 2. That wasn't the intention anyways.
Electrical problems. lost my speedo and shortly after my tach. alternator is shot no doubt but what else might be? I'm tempted to find another shell to put my engine in as I literally own the heaviest civic you could buy between 92 and 00. I'm thinking 92 civic cx hatch or maybe a nice crx si. losing 600 pounds is tempting. am I crazy?
Where, in all that is holy, could you lose 600 lbs in a Civic? Legitimate question, besides loosing the entire interior, glass and unnecessary body panels, where could you lose 600 lbs?
I'm glad you asked. my civic is a 2000 ex coupe. I just looked up the numbers and it's lighter than I thought . fully loaded with ac, PS, the sunroof and the rest of it I weigh in at around 2550 but I thought it was 2650. if I switch to say a 92 civic hatch preferably the cx version with ZERO creature comforts, I should sit at around 2100 or so if I don't gut it. if I do it would be closer to 2k even. I'd love to have my car weigh a metric ton even with me in it. if I did all that and got a tune I would have around the power to weight ratio of a mustang cobra r. supposedly. that was a cool ass mustang. Edit: the 88 crx hf weighed in at 1800 pounds. I won't find one of those but that would be insane to put a type r swap in.
Jesus, I wouldn't know what to do with a car that light. So just for curiosity's sake, what do you think of a 4wd 3/4 ton truck with a manual transmission that weighs 7700 lbs without driver or fuel, doing a 12.6 1/4 at 109?
I think about that very much. in my theoretical 1800 pound crx with a tune and slicks we'd have a pretty absurd, absolutely YouTube worthy race. I'm guessing that truck would have over 1000hp and probably 2500 foot pounds? diesel killer with a turbo I can stick my head into. hell you could tow my civic with said truck and still Crack off a 13 second pass at a buck. Edit: just for shits and giggles, 7700 pounds? I want to drive that truck.
Not quite, this truck belongs to a friend of mine, 99 3/4 ton 4wd Dodge with a 24 Valve and an NV4500 5 speed, the truck was on the dyno last year and it put down nearly 1700 ft lbs and I think somewhere around 750 HP, I'm not entirely sure on the HP, I just know it was more than 600 and less than 900. This truck was his daily driver for a while, when it hit 300,000 miles it became his designated "toy" and right now it's sitting in his shed with a pretzel-ed driveshaft. Another truck that I'd like to see on the drag strip belongs to a friend of mine's uncle, It's an 05 Ram 3500, last time I heard it was around 750 HP/ 1500 FT lbs, and this truck has found it's way into a couple magazines. http://www.drivingline.com/articles/winning-combination-how-a-750hp-cummins-dominates-the-dirt/
I disagree, not sure where you thought that was correct. The purpose of a resonator is to cancel out a certain range of sound frequencies, I took my muffler, resonator off, replaced it with regular piping. Slight HP increase and much better airflow, Car runs smoother too. Of course cars are still made that parts can be removed and such. What do you think performance exhaust systems are? By your logic you'd have to reflash the ECM just by changing to a performance exhaust, If he was removing the catalytic converter then its a different story. Educate yourself before downtalking what other people are doing.
Wow. I guess that power ratio is pretty consistent with what id expect to achieve. no way a stock driveshaft will survive that kind of twist for long. that's a fair bit more than 10 times the torque my rice cooker manages.
Not really mine, but I drove a few 100 km 's in my dad's Mercedes. And I went to the MC drive in my mother's car
made my truck crank for the first time in about a year after getting it running for the first time since about march of 1980. also did new 1/0 battery cables and connectors to replace the el crapo 60's ones with the push together clip fittings that suck.
