I stand by my comment that a V8 is better than a V6 in most cases. A V6 is only good when its the biggest thing you can fit without breaking the car. Yeah they did it for economy but you won't get much of that if your V6 tundra grenades itself.
Nomatter what you say, it is true that engine grenading is bad for economy. Seriously though, they can get a V6 by shutting off 2 cylinders in a V8 and getting extra power when they need it by turning them back on. Heck chevy gets a V4 out of a V8 bye doing this! And yes V6 is more economical but you never hear someone bragging about their V6 pickup do you? And don't even get me started with the tacoma i4... Also why not use a bulletproof I6? They have the stinkin' room! Their is no reason for my madness... only the thrill of a V8.
That's from festival of the unexceptional if I'm not mistaken? Really wanted to go but unfortunately my own Volvo is off the road and needs a lot of work. ....and I don't think my modern A-class would have been allowed in...
Is everybody European or American here? --- Post updated --- Or is there an Aussie here Or is it just me
checking in... Still driving my 1997 Q45. Turned 222k miles recently. Still a super solid, reliable, comfortable car. In February it had its first "breakdown" in my ownership. Alternator diode shorted out. Luckily the battery had enough juice to drive it home. Put a reman alternator in it and it has been good ever since. Setting aside $500-$1000 to do an engine service soon, going through and replacing some gaskets and old parts to try to keep it running good. I had to grow up and get a real job, so most of my time behind the wheel is now spent in a 2011 F150 XL short wheelbase which looks like this. It's not bad to drive, 3.7L V6 is peppy enough and 4WD lets it go anywhere. My only complaint would be that the tuning of both the electronic throttle and 6 speed transmission sucks.
Man, this truck is nice. Lots of power, nice interior, good ride quality, and great for work. Replaced the $1,200 toolbox with an old one that was just sitting around, partially so I don’t have to worry about damaging such a nice one, and partially because I can make up a bit of the price of the truck by selling it.
And that's sad, why? Any how on topic: Dropped the alternator off with a guy who will work on it over night to squeeze whatever life's its got left, i'll get it back in the morning. One of the brushes had actually come away from the slip ring (or contact surface, whatever you want to call it) and wasn't doing anything at all plus the bearings are shot (have been for ages). Hopefully it will work until i can replace it
Its sad because if we had some more Aussies we would have more community and more Australian themed threads and mods
