What happened to the birds in ECU? v16 > v17 (> v18)

What happened to all the birds I remember hearing in ECU from v16 and back? I remember them everywhere... even at the NW corner gas station (original gas station). Now you can't hear any birds at that gas station, and they are hard to hear, but in select places. And even then softer, and not as easy to hear.

Did the devs purposely tone down the bird sounds for the v17 update in August 2019 (& I presume v18 isn't too different)? Or are they still supposed to be there, but my computer (specifically) might not be capturing them all?

 

They added new ambient sounds to the map, so most likely.
