No, because stealing a car means the seller loses the car, and therefore profits. If you have no intention of buying a digital product so you pirate it, it doesn’t ‘take away’ from the inventory of the seller
This may appear more reasonable when looked at from the standpoint of purchasing something from a mega-corporation such as Adobe or Microsoft that sell products at much higher prices than a quality BeamNG mod and make more money off of them than they know what to do with but, in our specific case, we're talking about pirating mods from individuals that worked hundreds of hours making vehicles that match and could even exceed developer quality. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are more pirated copies of the mod out there than there are legitimately purchased copies, think of how much they've lost that they could've had by now.
But I doubt someone that pirates it would buy the paid mod, so there’s no lost income, technically Like, if there were no pirated versions in an alternate universe, the people that downloaded the pirated version in this universe most likely wouldn’t have bought the paid version in that alternate universe
I 100% guarantee that there are SOME who would buy it if a pirated version wasn't available, so yes, he lost a likely significant amount of income.
Well, yeah, but if the pirated version didn’t exist, I doubt he would gain a significant amount of money
If we take the Cherrier Picnic, which has had roughly 2900 sales on Ko-Fi and Gumroad together, and assume that double that number exists outside of legal purchase (because we know that these mods get around FAST) and assume that only 5% of the people who own the ~5800 pirated copies of it would have bought it if a pirated version available, LucasBE has now lost almost 300 Euros. And now think about similar circumstances surrounding the other paid mods of BeamNG, even some of the less-than-amazing ones, and think about exactly how much money has been lost.
And every copy has the exact same value as the one before it, even if it didn't take any materials to produce. Unless, of course, you're saying that when you duplicate a copy its value gets cut in half, but that doesn't make any sense, does it? In any case, if you share it you're breaking federal copyright law in the US, and a huge amount of the rest of the world at that, and stealing. I don't get how you guys don't understand that, and you can't justify it if you do understand that.
If you make digital piracy legal, then nobody will buy it, and the time and money spent will be lost. Piracy is not a victimless crime because you are enjoying and reaping the benefits of something and not rearding the person(s) that gave you those benefits, which, in a small community, where devs and moderators will have a very hard time enforcing a piracy ban, can be detrimental to content creators who put in hundreds of hours of work and quite possibly money, who would like some sort of compensation.
Bruh, these people want leaks Someone with common sense And then we have these guys The big argument The Leaker guy deleted all his comments as an attempt to backpedal, really lets you know how confident they are. The sensible comment got downvoted? If only we could brigade the modpiracy subreddit...
my rant abt leaking paid mods: why. your just basically saying: hehe your mod is now my property so back off u cant steal it. bro just pay for the mod itself if you have the money- most of these leakers are russian i think. they HAVE money to their name- (dont start drama over this. jsut correct me on things also this thread is very chaotic just like my soul)
no officer you dont understand i drew a line under Ford Racing 2's number with a sharpie, its now Ford Racing 3
