Yea I'm not buying them, and I'm also not "deciding for everyone else how things are" I'm sharing an opinion. Regardless, it doesn't really bother me that much because like you said the market will dictate if it's a successful move. Plus, some of the paid ones are early access paid only so it's not like I'm gonna miss out on many mods. I'm just pissed because I'm watching the modding scene turn into just an avenue for people to make money. Plus, if I have to pay someone $60 a year for each mod that I want, eventually that's going to take a huge chunk out of the amount of money I have. I refuse to pay triple A game prices for a mod that didn't take anywhere near the amount of effort required to justify $60 a year per mod. Plus I simply just don't play this game enough anymore to warrant $10 every single month just for one mod. Even you should be able to admit that that's fuckin ridiculous.
Has it maybe occurred to you good sir that paying for mediocre add-on content in a $20 video game is simply not worth it? If you were a wise spender like I, you would see that these individuals do not deserve payment as their content falls short of what is already provided in the video game itself.
Yes. That's why I don't buy them. --- Post updated --- I agree that it's too much money. And I get it. It's just, that is how life works. People offer goods, people buy goods. If more people want them, it costs more money. If they don't, it doesn't. The seller sets the price. The buyer decides. It's not unfair, it's not against the rules. It's just the market. I get that you're worried beamng will become something focussed on paid mods only, but I really doubt it. There will continue to be plenty of free mods, and as someone above (who completely misunderstood me) mentioned, the base game has plenty of content for the price. But as you said, it's simply your opinion, and you're obviously welcome to that (even without my blessing...). But so is everyone. And the paid mod makers and purchasers have a different one to you. If the Devs decided it was against the rules, or put in place a system to prevent it, that's a different story. But they're ok with it. I dunno, I just think it isn't that big a deal really.
1. I personally use Gumroad, which is extremely buyer-friendly. It has a proper refund policy, their website has an entire section dedicated to how they function, what % goes to them, and what goes to me. I also don't sell anything for "$10 a month", I don't "spend my time stealing 3D models", or "making rushed jbeams". For my case everything is made from scratch, by me, and to a (what I believe is) high-quality standard. I don't sell stuff I'm not proud of. A one-time payment of the equivalent of a cup of coffee (3.80€) for an entire car and free access to future updates is just fine imho. I spend months of my time creating stuff from the ground up. Now as you said I'm free not to do that. I could totally not make anything here and start selling 3D models for $170 on CGTrader, but that's honestly not something I want to do. My side of the argument is that you are free not to support my work and not buy my mods. It's just a virtual car for a video-game. Just because something doesn't make sense for you doesn't mean other people won't be interested. And clearly thousands of people are interested in paying $4 for a high-quality mod. I do agree, though, that paying $10 a month for stolen meshes is not okay, and I highly discourage people from doing that. I will also say I've had discussions with the devs before regarding paid mods and they're interested in official paid mods support. They were the ones contacting me asking how they could help with this.
So an official paid mods system is coming? That's good, hopefully it will stop scammers. (The ones you mentioned who steal 3D models and sell them for $10/month or more on barely edited vanilla Jbeams)
Hopefully a good thing. I worry about the devs getting caught up in silly bickering and moderating quality of the paid mods though. I'm sure they will have a plan in place for that, but I sure wouldn't want the job. We've all seen how much anger there is out there...
Aren't you the guy that made the Scout and the Insignia? I have both of those. They're not bad at all. I just don't wanna be seein obvious meshslaps from games that haven't been relevant in 10 years popping up for $10 a month cuz it's stupid ridiculous. I will say I could understand people paying for the Scout and the Insignia but they're still just mods for a video game. --- Post updated --- True
It's like this but it's like a car from the 1970s and it's not a Vauxhall I think it's an Ibishu or something. It's definitely Japanese, though, I think.
Offtopic but I just realized what your pfp is: Fenix skin swinging off of No Sweat insurance with the grapple glove in Tilted Towers OT: I'm fine with paid mods, I'm just not in a position to buy any rn I don't like the fact that more and more mods are becoming paid, but I respect the amount of work put into them. Of course I'm not talking about shit like spoolindiesel or Kenemation, duh.
That's the signia or the claria, both made by @LJ74, another very talented modder. The other paid mod from lucas is the picnic, a french compact
