EDIT: THIS IS OUTDATED, OLD MODS WILL STILL WORK IF THEY ARE MADE PROPERLY People will definitely call 0.26 the absolute worst update of all time. Why? Because the support for .cs materials is getting removed, and over half of all mods still use these materials. (DESPITE THE MOD CREATORS HAVING BEEN WARNED MANY TIMES TO SWITCH TO JSON, NOT WANTING IT EVEN FOR THE SAKE OF IMPLEMENTING PBR BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO LAZY, DESPITE THERE LITERALLY BEING AN AUTOMATED TOOL THAT SWITCHES IT INSTANTLY, DESPITE HAVING SEVERAL YEARS TO MAKE THE CHANGE AND STILL POSTPONING IT, WHY ARE PEOPLE SO LAZY??????????) So 0.26 will definitely break over half of all mods, including but not limited to all of the old mods that haven't been properly updated yet. A list (definitely not complete) of what will break: All of CrashHard's mods except for the Classic and the paid dummy (and maybe some of his props) All of Darren9's mods that never broke in any update before Likely all of AR162B's mods Most of the mods with a dummy/Stig Probably around 75% of all skin and parts mods All of the school bus mods that still work All of the Formula 1, 2, etc. mods that still work All of the oldest mods like AT-TE, old BTR-80, BELAZ, etc. The Oldsfullsize mod and addon The MAN TGS and the KamAZ Most of the real life car mods like the Mustang, AE86, Viper, etc. The Satsuma 210 The LKS Prerunner The original Prasu Gavril Vendetta Bitron B2 All plane mods unless some get updated Altitude map American Road map Car Jump Arena map, although Bob Blunderton had promised in the past to fix it if it ever breaks Cliff Roads map Matrix Freeway map if it's not updated on time SSRB if it's not updated on time All of Bob Blunderton's maps except for Los Injurus Basically almost all of the top downloaded and top rated maps All of the old classic Spencer Johnson style maps
with all due respect I really meant where a staff member said that or where it was officially announced lol
Well i can't find anywhere were it is officially announced but you can try dming a staff member like bob said
.24 - 25 was the worst update for me, ever since PBR was a thing my performance for my pc degraded Keep in mind that my spec is a Ryzen 5 4500U with a Vega 6 GPU (yes, intergrated) so i suffered out alot
To get rid of the Torque3D leftovers that are cluttering the game and are needed for CS to work, also because it's completely useless at this point and only old mods use it
It is not useless. BeamNG itself still uses .cs to handle the game start in 0.25, and to create datablocks on game start: Along with materials and other .cs files in gameengine.zip. Even the PostFX effects still rely on it (although these have currently unused lua ported variants). I have not been able to create certain types of datablocks through lua or a JSON file, JSON not seeming to do anything and the lua method creating a simgroup. I HIGHLY doubt we are going to see a full .cs removal within the next update. I also doubt .cs support is going to fully be removed despite the clear strive to remove torquescript. .cs is not only materials, but allows creation of any object within the game: which are quite a lot. Removing it for the next update in 0.25's current state seems an unfeasable goal in my opinion, and seeing as some objects don't seem to be creatable via lua and encountering other issues (I specifically have run into the "openFileDialog" not returning a fileCount or files array/table in lua), I only feel supported in that.
there is literallyl no reason to remove support for these textures, this will literally ruin EVERY mod.
Even if that was what Agent_Y meant, materials.cs is used by the game. This would be dumb to do, materials.cs is literally the most used form of .cs and also not the only thing TorqueScript is used for, why remove that part when all the others are still functional?
Good that they reconsidered it at some point, but they probably did have plans of depreciating the support for these materials if they told so to Bob Blunderton
