I was going to upgrade to i7 4770k and z97 board because I was sick of the lag in beamng with T series, but I did some research and found out I could actually keep my old x58 board and just upgrade the CPU from my i7 920 to a Xeon 6 core cpu and get nearly the same results (for cpu performance at least) On passmark it seemed like the Xeon 5690 benched to 90% of the performance a 4770k did, so saving more than half my money on this simple upgrade was a good idea. I haven't found anyone who is actually using the Xeon 5690 , but I've seen people use the 5670 so I took a chance and got the 5690 and it turned out great. Cpu runs really well, and finally I am able to run multiple T series and anything else I want (with exception of the big trailers in the truck mod) in beam without any lag, which is amazing. I haven't tried a bunch of vehicles yet, just 3 so far but I"ll run the banana benchmark and see how it goes. I bought a Noctua D15 as well, but don't have the correct mounting kit yet for my old hardware, so waiting on that. So far running factory clock speeds without any OC until I get the noctua cooler on it. I think I can get the truck and trailer mod to run without lag with some OC'ing. We'll see. It's still better with having 2 additional cores and ~800 more Mhz... Also not everyone likes to overclock.
Yea I understand that about the multipliers, im not looking to do anything crazy. I'm pretty happy with it as is, less money on this bs means more money for car parts
I know the x99 series parts have proven severely unstable with just a 10% increase on base clocks. Dunno about the older x58.
