shift logic thing from devblog listed above will apply to all users ideally no matter the input device used.
As someone who has a lot of fun in BeamNG as it is, using a keyboard like a peasant, I say that a minor shift logic change shouldn't be so big of a deal.
I think their complaint is that isn't the shifting itself but the fact that the new logic caused clutch engagement to be delayed. If that's the case i can understand the complaint, if you fully press in your clutch pedal and the reaction from the delayed i can see that throwing people off.
It certainly will in some situations, esp transmissions not made for fast shifting (think semis etc). The plan is to go away from the currently forced "out-of-gear" penalty when you missshift and instead add more detail to the damage that will accumulate. So you can probably shift as fast as you want, but it will end up doing more bad than good if you shift too fast. On the other hand, transmissions specifically made for shifting fast can also support that. The primary goal is to allow for more fidelity and control over your shifting as well as adding more detailed damage.
You played 1,200+ hours (72,000 minutes) and you're losing your shit because you don't know how to drive a car without clutch assist? Good lord. At this point you might as well invest in a steering wheel + pedals. No clue why you'd even be playin with clutch with just a controller.
I know people who do that and it's really not that bad. With the assists off, though... good lord. I use a PS4 controller most of the time and plug in a wheel whenever I can't go out and drive my real car. The PS4 controller is definitely a great way to play if you don't want to spend a ton of money on a wheel. It'll also make some things easier, like drifting.
I agree. Delayed gear shifting is unrealistic and game breaking. I also have to play with clutch assist to reduce the effects of this problem. I can shift any manual car irl 5 times faster than the beamng shifting delay.
With an actual shifter, shifts feel more satisfying, imo. Before, it was just a thing, but now it feels more engaging and enjoyable to use without assists.
