I modelled out some parts for the car, like extra lights, grilles and a rollbar for the Zuber/ Tramper variant: The current version of the Zuber/ Tramper with a mesh grille: I also worked on the model itself, by fixing some shading issues and smoothing out the areas around the wheels. There are still plenty of parts, I want to add, such as 80s square bumpers, lights guards and spoilers.
hmmmm... (I still need to figure out, if I can bring it to work, but it´s needed anyways for more detail)
It's a tad bit more. Trabant 601 never had a facelift, and that's the Trabant 1.1, the short lived modernization that had a four stroke Volkswagen engine, made for about a year before Sachsenring went under, since after the unification of Germany it had no right of existing with West German cars being available to East German citizens. They now had a choice, and they chose the modern free market constructions of the outdated communist government subsidized ones. Trabant could've only existed when it was the only choice available. For it to be "accurate" there'll also have to be a new engine added for it.
Yes, I know. There were already a few other posts, mentioning the engine, so I just didn´t mentioned it again, but it will have a different 4 stroke engine of course, instead of the old gaspy two stroke one, the old models had.
Cabrio version is done: I decided, to cut the bodies in three parts. The front fascia (which was floating anyways), the front body (from the front to the windshield) and the rest. I did this, because the fascia and the front body parts, are the same on each body style. With this way, I saved up polygons, and I made it a bit easier, to unwrap later, because it would be fuller and with less detail otherwise. I really try, to optimise the mod as good, as possible, because I don´t know, how much polygons the interior and the mechanical parts will have. The full model file with all parts has currently 34.884 polygons and 110 different parts.
I modeled up a simple rollcage, inspired, by custom ones, I found on the internet. It will be used in the rally version. I also got my hand on mirrors and door handles. I´m still not happy with the door handles, but as everything, it´s a work in progress, so I might change them later.
There was a rally version, made by Trabant originally, but from what I know, there are no original trackday variants. I´m currently just working on the original stuff and will eventually add modern restomod/ tuning stuff later. Maybe, but don´t take it for granted.
After modeling a firewall, I can say, that the exterior and the exterior parts are ready! There will be a few optimisations and changes later, when the mechanicals will be implemented, but all in all, the exterior is fully done! The next step is going to be the suspension and engine stuff. This might take some time, because I need, to do a lot of research on the drivetrain parts, because I want to make it as accurate, as possible.
