Its interesting because we still have quite a lot of content to get remastered and it makes me wonder what the superbuilds/race versions will be for those.
I did have a list of potential super builds posted somewhere... It probably would be at least interesting to have a post like that saved somewhere, and since it's going to be another 5 weeks or so until we see a teaser I guess it would be a good time to have that discussion. On the other hand, this is also a bit too open to have a useful discussion. The limit is pretty much the team's imagination, and we've already seen they can dream up some crazy stuff at times. Part of me isn't looking forward to any of the vintage American car remasters because there are just too many options I'm excited about and will be very disappointed when we inevitably don't see them all. Pretty much all of the vintage American passenger cars could get drag superbuilds (Here is a list of all the drag week classes from 2016. We could see tubbed rear ends, caged frame front ends or entire caged frames, altered wheelbases, fiberglass front clips, gasser builds, and so on...). Tarmac racing super builds are also plentiful (vintage trans-am, stockers/sportsmans/modifieds, gen 1/2 Nascar builds, etc...) and as always we could see some garage built off road machines. A lot of cars could get caged frames of varying degrees. Whether it be a tube frame front end to put a V8/V10 where it otherwise couldn't fit or something more extreme. Formula drift cars are an option for a few vehicles, most notably the 200BX. A lot of people might find is surprising that the T-Series actually has a couple of options here. I made this post a while ago about the T-Series remaster and included a blurb about potential super builds. A lot of these options wouldn't work for the later model year cars, but many of those could see modern race cars. In some cases those would be dedicated tube platforms with shells resembling the "base" car, which at that point is just a new car entirely. GT3 cars would probably still be more of a superbuild if I understand their specs correctly.
Well, since no one brought up the topic of the K series remaster, and most likely the 800 with it, I feel 2 of the biggest remasters ever coming. For both of them, I see the usual updated Jbeam and Models. I can also see a 4.0TT V8 for both of them. For the 6 cyl models, I wonder if we could get a cackle tune ECU considering the 2 cars bmw influence. For the K series, I feel like we could get a cabrio considering the new audio thing. I also feel a GT3 car is almost a given. For the 800, I’m not as sure. I feel a sedan is likely, but beyond that, I’m not sure. Maybe an allroad type variant?
Another user and I discussed how we found it almost entirely unlikely for either modern ETK to receive a TTV8, they're simply in the wrong class. The 800 Series is indeed a C-Class/3 Series sized vehicle, but any C-Class which received a TTV8 was significantly heavier than an 800 Series and the 3 Series has never had a TTV8. The K-Series, being like an SLK/BMW Z4, is also not large enough for a TTV8. I think it could potentially be a swap engine offered in both, and therefore also the basis for a larger ETK as a mod, but I do not find it likely that they will have a TTV8 configuration from the factory.
Since the i3 sound we saw in that leaked video wasn´t released, I speculate we might indeed (as some said before) get a hybrid model of the 800 with i3+ electric engine (like the bmw 225e for example) given that there was also some content related to EV vehicles in this update.
Hybrids seem unlikely as the devs have repeatedly said no to that. And it makes sense.... to deliver the quality we love to come to expect from them, they would need to so some serious research first. Then there is Arcanox Hybrid Mod which already is very good at what it does. What imho from a development standpoint seems much more realistic is that we will see more improvements to pure EVs, especially in terms of thermal battery management. Hybrids being... well an Hybrid of ICE and EV would also benefit from a more accurate EV simulation in this regard and seing how the car industry is moving towards pure EV, this is where most of the interest will be. Hybrids in real life more and more find themselves on a sinking ship, as the advances in battery technology make it increasingly unpopuplar to carry arround a maintainance intensive ICE in addition to battery and electric drivetrain. Hybrids made sense as long as pure EV couldnt do the job... but as pure EV increasingly can.... little point in all that complexity. Modern drivetrains for BeamNG could also include a hydrogen vehicle and while I personally think that hydrogen wont play a role in car sized vehicles in real life, it is still an interesting concept to simulate.
IDK if anyone has covered off on this yet, but from the pics I've seen of the RV's on the new map.. They look pretty good. New Wentworth RV?
The thing is, there is a plane(that's covered) on the Utah map, and the developers confirmed we won't be getting flying vehicles any time soon. I doubt.
From a physics standpoint, any type of energy storage sufficiently large to propel at least a metric ton of metal over hundreds of kilometers at significants speeds - is inherently dangerous. That is simple a lot of energy and that energy will cause a lot of trouble if released in an uncontrolled manner. Spoiler: Spoiler Diesel and to a lesser extent petrol have the advantage that they are an fluid which greatly impairs its ability to mix with air for a nasty explosion. They will burn very good but they are not going to make boom even in the most horrendous of crashes. Hollywood lies, cars arent explosive. Meanwhile any combustible gas inside a pressure tank, be it CNG, LPG or Hydrogen will - due to being a gas in the first place and having a lot of overpressure to aid in case of a pressure tank rupture - mix with air very well.... add a single source of ignition - which you will almost certainly have in a crash severe enough to rupture the tank - and you are in the center of a devastating explosion. The reason why pressure tanks are built so durable in the first place is the potentially catastrophic consequences of it rupturing. They also usually have an safety valve that - somewhat controlled - releases its content when the tank overheats. So instead of the overpressure rupturing the tank, you get overpressure releases that fuel the fire (and can lead to 10+ meter long flames into the release direction) but at least this should avoid the tank rupturing and causing a large explosion. Batteries dont explode but can be a fire difficult to exinguish due to both construction and chemicals used. To reduce the risk of battery damage, EV batteries tend to be heavily armored and structurally reinforced. With overall rising energy density making less energy dense battery chemical compositions increasingly competive, some people suggest that the market will shift towards Lithium iron phosphate batteries and similar concepts which while lower in energy density (lower range for given battery size) have significant advantages in rare raw material consumption, cycle life and safety due to a far less reactive battery composition. Driving in traffic is what 99 % of all cars do 99 % of the time And while EV are indeed heavier than comparable ICE powered vehicles, the penality isnt that large as the weight disadvantage of the battery compared a fuel tank is partially compensated by electric motors being lighter than a comparable ICE drivetrain. The low sitting heavy battery also results in a lower center of gravity. "Insane" mass is also a somewhat ironic argument to be made in a market that has seen ICE vehicle weight almost double within 2 decades and where the most popular vehicle type is an obese SUV with a high center of gravity, piss poor cornering capability, and high rollover risk. In many ways SUV are the worst possible vehicle chassis type to have for on road driving, something that regrettably is overlooked by a majority of buyers. There is a reason historically only true off roaders have been built the way SUV are built.
Can you take that to dm's? seriously quit spamming off-topic conversations. I didn't come here to read a book chapter discussion on vehicle fuels i came here for update speculation.
Considering we didn't get RV conversions/upfits for the H-Series, D-Series, or Stambecco, I don't think we'll be getting a purpose-built RV any time soon, if at all. That would take a huge amount of time and effort to make, and wouldn't really be all that necessary for career mode. Nor would it offer a significantly different driving experience when we already have the DT40L. I have no idea why those three vehicles didn't get RV versions - I presume because the travel trailer exists, and that's pretty much meant to be the "RV" for this game? Hmmm...that's quite interesting to see. Hopefully, the I-Series is remastered at the same time as the K/800. I wonder how different in styling the ETKs will be post-remaster - the Bolide got the larger tail lights that a lot of people were asking for, and also became much smoother. The Pigeon also got substantially reproportioned in its remaster. Also, both the Bolide and Pigeon had their roofs raised so that they could fit people inside - while that doesn't remotely confirm people/dummies inside vehicles officially, it is quite interesting that they're making it a priority now. While it would be very cool to see interwar vehicles, I don't know if those will ever happen officially. BeamNG and Automation seem to be in quite a lock-step with each other - their respective teams likely improve their games to help the other game, and Automation 4.2 came out on stable just five days before 0.27 was released. I don't think that was entirely a coincidence, since similar events have happened before - the engine designer revamp happened on 21 September, while 0.26 came out on the 19th of September. The Campaign 4.2 came out on the 12th of June, just three days before BeamNG released 0.25. And BeamNG's 0.23 update came with an update to Automation's exporter to handle the new materials - on the same day (30 June, 2021). The Automation devs have repeatedly said that they don't have much interest in making pre-1946 vehicles officially, and many things (like rotaries, straight-eights, straight-twins, V-twins, flat-8/12s, and hybrids) have not been made available in either game. But that doesn't mean they're perfectly in lock-step. BeamNG's had vehicles with three (Pigeon) and six (T75) wheels officially for almost a decade, when Automation likely never will have that. Diesels and electrics have also been a thing in Beam for a while, but not in Automation. So, while it is far more likely for Beam to cover pre-war vehicles than Automation, and I highly doubt the Automation team will hold back the Beam team on that, there's never been any pre-'50s cars teased before - even on the old concept list. There was this thing that PackardCaribien posted a long time ago - Gabester replied to it saying that he "had always been planning on making pre-war cars". But that was many, many years ago, and Gabe's no longer the vehicle lead, so I don't know if that holds any water anymore.
no speculation but when will we have merchandising? it's the only way many of us can keep supporting this game and i want a couple of posters
I don't think an RV is out of the question. Mentioning the lack of upfits is comparing apples to oranges. If anything, the camper trailer and the bus show that they do have the necessary components to make one if they wanted to. And this last update has shown that the devs are no stranger to putting in lots of work, as well as creating unique vehicles. I hope the devs are done with offroading for the time being since they just released a massive offroad update, I prefer road driving. Personally, I would like to see more modern road vehicles, something unique like a rotary (even though no modern cars have them). A modern big car like a pickup or luxury SUV would also be nice. Also, the ETKs really need a remaster, especially the 800 and K-series. As far as maps go, they seem to have covered most of the bases, so I'm not sure what they might do next. I would like to see a large suburban map with interesting geography and road layouts. West Coast has city driving but little residential.
I really can't see the team going for an RV now. Lately it seems there has been a few things they have been focusing on: Highly requested content: An LD Charger (Bastion) and modern supercar (Scintilla) were two of the most common requests. A modern pickup truck, modern SUV, and any MY minivan are some of the more popular remaining requests I've been seeing (it would be interesting to get a proper summary of this, but the vehicle suggestions thread just gives me a migraine so I'm not about to try and tabulate any data from it, and comments on the official social media posts aren't much better). They've been giving attention to the formerly one-off marques. Autobello, Bruckell, and Civetta all got second cars in their line up (Stambecco, Bastion, and Scintilla). Cherrier stands out as the last single platform brand that isn't a luxury marque (Soliad and Burnside) or specialty marque (Wentward). Edit: It has been pointed out that I forgot one of the Bruckells existed... So change this to "brands that were light on content/lore" as Bruckell was pretty much forgotten about after the LeGran was introduced, bar it's remaster. ETK is also in this boat as aside from the upcoming K-Series rework it really hasn't had any attention in years. With career mode development going at a good pace now, that team will probably have a heavy say in what the next couple of vehicles are. I don't want to turn this into vehicle suggestions, but I really think the next vehicle will either be a Bruckell modern full sized pickup truck or a Cherrier/ETK of any description. Either of those would check off a fair number of boxes for what the game needs, what the community has been requesting, and fit the pattern of what the devs have been working on lately. A modern dedicated RV isn't highly requested (at least it wasn't until the props in Johnson valley), useful for career mode, or all that unique*. Meanwhile, RV upfits for the H-Series are a pretty common request and we could see one for the D-Series and T-Series as well (We could get a Kentarch 4x6 D-Series motorhome based on the Revcon trailblazer... That would be one of my favorite vehicles in game...). An upfit for the existing BoF trucks would take much less recourses and at least fill some of that gameplay niche. Sure another heavyweight would be cool, but there's a lot of options there which are far more versatile (and more often requested, such as a COE semitruck). *There are some interesting dedicated RV options. One of my favorites is the GMC motorhome, which was a FWD chain drive with a funky rear end set up with self leveling feature, and powered by a choice of 2 big-block V8s. That could be introduced as a Bruckell and share parts from the Wendover as the real GMC motorhome had parts from the E-Body platform.
Another great post, but bruckell is not a one off manufacturer without tbe bastion. You have the moonhawk and legran
