The Merlin is a 27l V12 Aircraft V12. It has a Bore of 137mm and a Stroke of 152mm. At 3000rpm that is an Average Piston Speed of 15.2 m/s.
That's the same as most normal Cars, and Forced Induction Sports Cars.

HOWEVER: In a Way you could describe it as a High Performance Truck or Marine Engine. Where most Cars have 2 Compression Rings and an Oil Ring, the Merlin, like a Truck has 3 Compression Rings and 2 Oil Rings as you would find in big Diesels, Truck Engines etc. That's a MASSIVE Piston, that's moving up and down.

Add to that the Size of the Pistons themselves. They were designed for Aircraft, so they are Ultra Heavy Duty, Massive, to Withstand the Engine Running to run at their Nominal Power (between 6 and 12lbs/sq.in at 2650RPM or around 1000 to 1250hp) for a TBO of around 300 hours in Military and 1200 hours in Civilian Duty.
Remember, 15m/s Piston Speed is what a normal Honda Civic hits the Rev Limiter at. So you can guess what a Piston must be built like to withstand that for it's entire Life.

3000RPM is what it will do and already stretching it.

Also: More Boost? At the Boost Levels shown on the Gauge ingame right now it should deliver 3000+hp, maybe even 4000. That's the kind of Boost they use in Reno on the Mustangs for no more than 10 Seconds at a time.
The 850hp ingame right now are what the Tank Engine, Naturally Aspirated Version of the Merlin, the Meteor, delivered at 3000RPM.
The Boost doesn't make a lick of Sense right now. A Merlin with 0.4 Bar of Boost will already deliver 1000hp. If you do that with a Cropped Charger maybe even 1250.
The Merlin 55m with 18lbs of Boost and a Cropped Charger did almost 1600hp (1.24 bar of Boost)
And the LF Merlin 66 delivered 2000hp with 1.72bar and 150 Octane.

2000hp with half the Boost in the Game right now. You should be wishing for less.

I've been having an absolute blast with this monster, except for one small problem. I hear the default engine sound instead of the Merlin sound. Any ideas on why and how to fix it?

With the sounds you need to work .. with the increase in speed, the sound of the engine is somehow quiet, you need to adjust it louder)))

Something is going wrong when I load Bruckell Firehawk...!! I downloaded it properly and kept in the "mods" folder after that whenever I load the car it's front wheels are disappeared and the brake calipers are hovering in the air:confused: and the car is dancing.....the game gives this message "fatal error exception. please reload vehicle"<--- something like that:mad:. Please give a solution to this!!

    Firehawk VS pigeon.
    Enough said.
Edit: that lump of black metal with a wheel is what remains of the pigeon

How about adding another rear axle? Make it an 8-wheeler!

Well, it would appear that you crashed it. Have you tried not doing that?

how did you do the separate afterfire from each exhaust? it'd be cool if you could apply this to the "terrible" barstow.

It's not afterfire actually, it's just that the exhaust is so short that you can see the explosion from the combustion chamber making its way to the tip. This is controlled by lua and you can actually still see the afterfire from time to time. If you want to see how it's done, you can take a look at "firing_order.lua"
