Hello there ! Remember that old project of mine that unfortunately died (mostly because of time) ? Sauber C20 Petronas (stand-by) Well, now that I have some time and after seeing the succesful Genesis F2 of LucasBE, I decided to restart the Sauber C20 project from zero. Like the previous attempt, this mod will be a conversion but I want it to be more than that. For more details, this will be a conversion of the Sauber C20 from F1 Challenge '99-02 and this is not just picking the car 3D model and put it in BeamNG, I also want to reverse engineer the physics of the car from the original game. Here is some pictures of the current state of the project : Compared to my previous attempt, this is looking far more promising (even the power unit is working). Initially, I had to deal with a suspension problem but now it's fixed, I can focus on the remaining parts of the car. Here is a more detailed view of the project : To do before an eventual beta release : - Solve the suspension travel problem (Done) - A proper steering system (Mostly done, some fine tuning still required) - Engine sound - The whole texturing (new UV maps are required) - Some jbeam fine tuning (On it) Planned features and changes after the potential beta release (this list might be subject to changes) : - 3D model improvements - Adjustable wings - Proper gearbox system - Launch control system - Traction control system - Pit limiter - Working LEDS and displays on the steering wheel - Working rear light - Wheels tethers (if possible) NB : Understand these features and changes are planned to be added during the beta phase, not before. Credits : - Original 3D model by Image Space Incorporated (ISI), then modified by myself to suit the mod needs. - For the jbeam, I have to admit I was quite inspired by LucasBE's work but I still tried to do my own thing though. - credits for the sound will come later since I haven't worked on it yet.
Yes! Finally another F1 mod! I really hope this get's throught, and don't get cancelled. I am excited for new progress!
oh sweet! old f1 cars are a niche that i'm surprised haven't been filled in this game i know it's probably a dumb question but since this is an F1C convert are there any plans for other cars from that game?
Personally, I don't think this is a dumb question considering the respectable number of cars available in F1C without counting the mods At this stage of the project, the best answer I can provide is maybe. After all, I really want to finish the Sauber first, especially if I consider my previous failed attempt. On the other hand, if I manage to reach the beta stage for this mod, I will seriously consider doing an other car.
Great! Hope you will find all the solutions to complete this car. Is there possible that there will be a driver or at least additional passenger dummy?
I don't think I will do a driver or a dummy for the mod. However, I will make the mod so a 75 kg dummy or driver can be added into the car while respecting the technical rules from the F1 2001 season. To explain further, the 2001 rules states the minimum weight of the car must be 600 kg driver included, empty fuel tank. So, to be able to add a 75 kg dummy, the car has to weight something around 525 kg in-game with the fluids, the wheels but without gasoline. I hope I managed to answer your question
Unfortunately, I am stalled with the suspsension issue. I hope I will find a way to solve this, but I am really that close to run completly out of ideas
maybe someone like lucasbe could be a good person to talk to, given they made the F2/3 mods they probably know how to do an open wheel suspension
Lately, he seems quite buzy with his lastest mod (the ETK K-Series) but I will probably contact him for some advices if the ideas I have left don't work.
Good news : the suspension problem is solved for the front I still have the rear to do but it should be done quickly now that I managed to indentify the core of the issue
The issue was the precompression of the springs. Initially the springs were set with a beam precompression of 1.0 and because of that and the car weight, the coilovers were compressing until the car hit the ground. One way to solve that was to tweak the precompression range to make the beams spawned longer and now the car is no longer hitting the ground (at least at the front). Honestly, I am quite happy because that means the jbeam for the suspensions has the potential to work
Alleluia ! Alleluia ! The suspension issue is completly solved Next step : the steering and the remaining parts of the car
