This is a discussion thread for the Aircraft Autopilot app (https://www.beamng.com/resources/aircraft-autopilot.34391/). It can be used to request support for aircraft types.

For instructions on how to use the mod, please see the resource page.

    Tested aircraft types
Aircraft not on this list may only work partially or not at all with the autopilot.

    Support implemented separately in autopilot
    • MTN-Goat (Shadow_Clan1965) - tested on aircraft version 3.5. (Autopilot version v0.1+)
    • B25 Mitchell (Joelvb, et al.) - tested on aircraft version 7.3. (Autopilot version v0.1+)
    • Me262 (Stoat Muldoon, not on repo) - tested on aircraft version v1.2. (Autopilot version v0.1+)
    • Antonov AN-12B (Dummiesman, not on repo) - tested on aircraft version from 2023-11-18. (Autopilot version v0.2.1+)
      • Controls must be set to direct mode before enabling autopilot.
    • Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX-e (jgb) - tested on aircraft version 1.65. Fully functional. (Autopilot version v0.2.1+)
    • Canadair CL-215 (MorzBNG) - tested on aircraft version 1.0.2. (Autopilot version v0.2.1+)
      • V/S is somewhat oscillatory.
    • PBY-5A Catalina (Stoat Muldoon & jgb, not on repo) - tested on aircraft version from 2025-04-06. (Autopilot version v0.3+)
      • The autopilot doesn't know how to dampen tail swings properly, so HDG will cause some minor Dutch roll.
    • Cessplane L19 (Dummiesman) - tested on aircraft version 2017-07-27. Fully functional. (Autopilot version v0.3.1+)
    • Dassault Mirage 2000 (Stoat Muldoon & jgb) - tested on aircraft version 2.21. Fully functional. (Autopilot version v0.4+)
    • Boeing 737 - 100 (Baconzez) - tested on aircraft version from 2026-04-20. Fully functional. (Autopilot version v0.4+)
    Support implemented in vehicle
    • None so far.
Not supported, nor is support planned
    • None so far.

I will try adding support in the next version. (It might take some time, unfortunately - I'm working on a rather big rewrite which also involves recalibrating basically everything; it should fix a lot of the issues the current version has.)

    I will look into it.

EDIT: Added support for v0.3.1. Reviewers are on holiday, so it might take some time for it to show up.

This mod does not work. I am using a Canadair CL-215 Aircraft, and i find that the aircraft annoyingly yaws right by itself. So i installed this mod, but it happens to not work. i do not know why. well, i guess i have to yaw left every 10 seconds, andd manually throttle it.

I tried using the CL-215, and the autopilot seems to work for me with HDG. Could you share a screenshot or description of the autopilot modes you tried to use?

While I like how it works on the AN 12, Its a little sloppy on the B25 Mitchell. Like for example when i want to input a higher or lower altitude, the plane will suddenly freak and pitch up or down sharply. It also happens when i input a heading. Idk whats going on and i don't know what solutions should i take

The B-25 controls are a bit snappy in general. It might be tunable to some extent, but I'd take a lot of trial and error to get it right.

I was in talks with the author, who was interested in implementing support for it in the aircraft directly. However, I could still look at it.

For the record, I tried adjusting it, but the adjustments did not seem to improve the situation much. I suspect there are two other issues here:
    • Any manual controls will override autopilot controls with immediate effect, which can cause a lot of jitter.
    • For altitude changes, you should not keep the ALT mode engaged to change altitude. instead, you should set a new altitude and engage FLC or V/S. ALT tries to keep whichever altitude is specified, so if it is at a different latitude, it will abruptly pitch up or down. v0.4 will make this easier by allowing you to engage FLC or V/S and allow you to set a new altitude in 10 seconds (before v0.4, engaging FLC or V/S when at the target latitude will immediately switch back to ALT, so you'd have to pause to set the new altitude and mode at the exact same time).

Hi thank you very much for this mod.
I tried using FLC and V/S to change altitude by using the 10 second window before it switches back to ALT but they are not working. Only ALT is changing altitude.
If possible could you make a video?
    Thanks

Hey! I love your autopilot mod, and I figured an integration with my mod would be a very logical move.

    upload_2026-7-29_15-18-12.png

I'm working on supporting your Aircraft Autopilot to my HiStakes UI mod under the Flight mode. It currently supports visualizing the data (shown as purple numbers and arrows), including the ability to pass on the current flight telemetry to the Aircraft Autopilot as inputs. It also plays an alert tone when Autopilot is disengaged.

PS: If you do not approve of this, pls send me a PM. I'll be happy to work it out with you.

I'll need to check what's up with that. The way it should work is that if you switch to FLC and V/S before setting the new altitude, it should allow you 10 seconds to set the new altitude before it switches back to ALT (altitude hold) mode. If you set the new altitude before then, it should stay in FLC or V/S and then shift to the new altitude in that mode.

That's entirely fine by me. I'd appreciate the necessary mentions in the documentation. It's also worth noting that while the autopilot code is documented rather extensively, I cannot really provide any API stability guarantees with how the UI interacts with the autopilot backend, although I don't see any immediate need to change it either.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear! I'll be sure to credit you as well.

I can totally understand that APIs aren't set in stone. But if there are any changes to it, I would appreciate it if you could also disclose the details in your future update post so I can update things on my end if needed.

I've realized the issue; this works perfectly with V/S, but not with FLC due to how the mode works. If you are e.g. in level flight at 2000 ft with an airspeed of 100 kt, and then engage FLC and set the target altitude to 3000 ft, with A/T enabled the FLC will seek to simply maintain the plane's attitude to maintain the 100 kt airspeed, but this will simply cause it to fly level and not reach the target altitude.

Fixing this is going to require redesigning the FLC mode so that A/T mode will adjust the throttle according to whether we should climb or descend.
