I understand that this may be really cliché, but everyone started somewhere. A person's first mod wouldn't be, lets say @DuneWulff 's quality, and they are just testing the waters with modding. If they see all of these people's negative reactions, they will see that the waters are hot and quickly escape from the forums. Note: EVERYTHING is from my point of view, as a Midst of "Middle Class" and "The Bottom" I'd say.
Haven't read because tbh I don't really care. This community represent what people really are and this is probably better that way. Now there've been hundreds of those threads already and we clairly don't need another one.
Gavril 2012 D-Series Topic has been cleaned and locked by mods until (and if) creator picks it up again.
Basically... I mean, why not actually leave a review there? I mean, it literally says 'review' on the tab. Atleast try to leave something constructive, as apposed to just being sarcastic or even straight up borderline insulting the person...
This! Also remember that 1 and 5 stars are not the only ratings. There are 3 ratings in between too (Incredible feature, wow!) Those 1 star rating that are simply rude/spam/unnecessary harsh are better being kept out of here. There was a nice thread that nicely explained how to use reviews properly, sadly I cannot find it, but that is worth a read, and it's applicable everywhere that lets you review something.
Like a few other members said, I think there should be a thread that welcomes new members to the forum, and I think modders should actually help people with their mods instead of just posting links to the Wiki.
I dont agree with this. As a modder(quality of mods isnt discussed here) I try to help people when I can and feel like to but its not like I have to do that. I make my mods in my spare time for fun and I dont want to help people with their mods especially when their answer is easy to solve by looking at the Wiki everytime someone asks something. And its not like we get anything for our mods or our help... @Nadeox1 did you mean this: https://www.beamng.com/threads/update-to-reviews.42763/
It’s not our job to complain about the few immature people in the community, they will always exist. This is the Internet after all. It is instead our job to do our part in making the community a friendly, postive, supportive, place. Complaining about problems doesn’t solve anything, and instead creates more problems. All you can change is yourself, so make sure you’re making the community a better place. Friendliness goes a long way. Something like this?
Yeah, I think that is somewhat what he was talking about. Almost like an information desk or something. You would probably be linked straight to it once you create your account I bet.
Money? Unlike the topics above, you generally have to say/suggest something VERY badly thought-out for that to cause large arguments.
Its more of a courtesy thing then anything. Especially for some people who are having really bad money problems. I grew up with you don't talk about money, politics, or religion. Race where I grew up din't matter.
This is what we need more of. IMHO this is the best post in this thread. You know, if I had the skills required, I probably would try to help some newcomers with their mods, especially if their ideas for mods are very interesting to me. Unfortunately I know too little about modding above skinning. A good example of a mod that'd catch my attention is how someone once wanted to do a 58 Plymouth, a car I'd absolutely love to have in BeamNG, but so far nobody else has stepped forward to attempt to make it. And if someone makes a private mod of one, I swear that I will flip my s#@t like Markiplier playing Getting Over It. You and I are on the same page. I definitely believe that with a lot of work and enough effort, we could turn this forum upside up and make it far more appealing that what it is right now. I'd love to see this place get better. This is a forum I still enjoy coming to and interacting with fellow BeamNGers and the staff when I get the opportunity, despite some of the atrocious things that happen here often. Since people's given their opinions on what could be done to improve the forum, I'm going to as well. I'll mention my best examples. Spoiler: I put them in a spoiler so it's not a wall of text. First being eliminating the high frequency of trolls like captain cool blox, leosky, and vansandpans (now of which I think is the most despicable case of a troll in this forum's history). I'll keep on saying it until the end of the world that the best remedy is to hire at least one more moderator that's not from Europe. Heck, a lot of these trolls were active when it was still daytime for me, which probably means that they either live in the Western Hemisphere like I do (most likely case), or they stay up really late, maybe both for that matter. But the problem is that tdev says no. I understand what he said, I very much do, he presented valid points, but sometimes doing nothing fixes nothing, the problem only gets worse. I know they say to report and move on, but think about it, even when they are reported, the issue has already escalated into ground zero by time a moderator takes care of it. It's why the trolls I mentioned are still remembered today. There wasn't anyone there to put out the fire before it burned the whole house down; the priest was stuck in traffic on his way to exorcising the demon in the church. Second would be stricter rules on private mods. I've said it before, private mods are perfect triggers for preventable drama. It's something I've seen it happen not only here, but on other sites as well. It may be their right and will to show off their PMs publicly (which IMHO defeats the whole idea of a "private" mod), but is it worth it? It's like playing in a pool full of snakes, one if not all of those snakes will bite you if you push all the right buttons. It's gonna get ugly, and it's gonna hurt. Thirdly. TBH, I think users that has above average modding skills here should be more open to helping newcomers and such with mods. I know there are some pretty dumb cases where they make a thread presenting zero progress, and other times where what they say translates into "OMG plesae helpa me M 2 layzee to do its meself! PLEEES!" overall wasting peoples time. But what I'm saying is that I think we should be more open to the ones who are at least more than 85% interested participating in the mods development, is noticeably already putting in effort, presents a good mature attitude, and makes it look good enough of an opportunity for the other modder to engage in. Also, I think I've witnessed this enough times to think that linking them to the Wiki doesn't really help them. I've looked at Wiki before, and I swear I'm not joking, I felt like I was reading the effing Rosetta Stone of all things, and it left me feeling like it didn't help at all. Just in case you don't know what the Rosetta Stone is. Spoiler: Maybe not this one, this one is a bit more of an angry rant. This last one probably only applies to me, but maybe throw Discord out the window. I know it's not officially recognized by the staff I believe, but I honestly blame that site for Dummiesman's departure, as he mentioned it a lot in his thread about leaving. I know it's not the #1 reason why he left, but still. Hearing him talk about its contribution genuinely made me very upset, and couple that with my somewhat already existing disliking toward it, after hearing so many infamous things about it, makes me really despise it now. I'm still appalled by how people invited him to Discord just to take a nasty crap on him. Sorry for my profanity, but f$#k Discord! It's one reason why we lost a respectable member who made some pretty nice mods like the LMSC and Beam Regenerator, who was once a staff member from what I've heard.
Could you give a common example of where a money-related topic is impolite to bring up? ‘Someone might not have it‘ can be applied to any sort of personal belonging, such as cars or computers, which are both often discussed here, so what exactly makes the belonging that people use to trade for these other belongings a taboo topic? (On a side-note, from what I've seen, the job referenced in your name and avatar can be just as controversial when mentioned near the wrong people )
vansandpans? Was he the one that showed up in the Narwhal Pessima Wagon thread demanding it be fixed?
