This mod provides an altered function inside the shift pattern of an 8-way H-shifter. Do you own an 8-way H-shifter ? And do you have a fascination or a specific interest in the T-series or other trucks that are available for BeamNG ? Then this mod might be useful to you ! If you have/had experience in real life driving heavy trucks ( like I did ) or you have a special interest for them you might know that there are a few different systems that allow the use of multiple gears while using the gear stick. For more immersion and especially for more control I have found a way to replicate (simulate) one of those systems. This mod for the T-series allows an 8-way (7 + R) gear shifter to use the position of the 7th gear to act as a switch between low gear shift and high gear shift. What does that mean ? It means that for the first 6 gears of the T-series 12M gearbox you just use the six gear positions available on your H-shifter. Then, when it's time to shift to 7th or higher, you use the 7th gear position to switch from the low shift positions to the high shift positions. So, gear position 1 becomes gear position 7, 2 becomes 8, 3 becomes 9, 4 becomes 10, 5 becomes 11 and 6 becomes 12. When it's time to shift down to lower gears again you shift to the 7th gear position again to switch to low shift gearing and 1 is 1 again, 2 is 2 and so on... Many real life older types of heavy truck transmissions do this by moving the stick to the far left and right when it's in neutral position. But as far as I know the Thrustmaster TH8A (or other H-shifters) has no sensors in the neutral position. Therefore I came to the idea to use the 7th position for the task. I have tested the system using my Thrustmaster TH8A and it seems to work flawlessly, so using the keyboard for shifting still works, overrides H-shifter shifting, and isn't affected by the 7th gear position switch. This means that if you just want to shift using the keyboard all works as it should. This also means that if you reverse and you want to shift to the 2nd reverse gear you can just use the keyboard for this while the H-shifter is in reverse. In other words, the system works flawlessly and is a great mean to allow for extra control on the T-series. This mod is easily transformable to other vehicles, such as Kamaz or Heavy Utility Truck maybe, or any other vehicle the user wishes it to be applied on. Although I currently assigned this mod to the T-series exclusive. The mod is tested with other T-series mods installed on the game and shows no conflicts. Also, this mod cancels the reverse signal for more comfortable 'long duration manouevres'. On the demo the H-shifter is used exclusively and two of the most popular T-series mods are used in combination with my mod. There seems to be a glitch in the replay system blocking the readouts from the speed and gear apps. Its very interesting mod, but can you make the same for more common 6-speed shifters? May be by assign simply dedicated key for change the range...
You mean you have no 7 + R shifter but a 6 + R shifter ? Yes it can easily done by assigning the high-low switch to a key binding. If you want I can look into that and give you an instruction on how to reprogram (not difficult) this. edit : by the way why don't you just try to assign a key to 'gear7' in your controls menu ? I think it should work out of the box and I am going to try this right now. edit edit : Okay, it's very easy ! Just go to controls, vehicle specific and assign a key or button to high/low switch. Glad you got it working I will take a look at some other heavy vehicles soon, certainly the Kamaz. But it won't be for today though Jalkku Semi I don't know that one yet, is it on the repo ? edit Ah it's the Heavy Utility Truck, IIRC it's using the older drivetrain system in the jbeam files. It might work but I give it chances 50/50. I'll check it out soon.
ok so there is a couple or 1 mod that will interfere with this mod and those are t series addon by ar162b, gavril t series expansion pack, i havent found out which of these mods are the one thats causing the issues but i just disabled both and be done with.
Thank you for bringing it to the thread I thought the addon by ar162b was outdated or broken by last version of the game but I see in its reviews that it's still being used. Maybe I was wrong ? In any case my mod was compatible with both of these mods simultanously on version 0.19 . I will check out both of these mods again in the near future just to make sure.
Hello. I don't know what happened but this mod is not working. I tried use it without any other mods but it's no purpose But, old version for MAN is work correctly.
To answer these questions (remarks) I have come up with one problem that seems a little odd. It seems that the latest version of https://www.beamng.com/resources/gavril-t-series-expansion-pack.636/ does not spawn the third axle of its heavy config in my game, even with all other mods disabled. This is also the mod that's not compatible with my mod, because I think all the engines are modified ones. Aside from above I am surprised that AR162B's https://www.beamng.com/resources/gavril-t-series-addon.178/ still seems to work flawlessly to date. I believe after 0.20's first release it was broken due to the infamous wheel issues but after the hotfix all seems to be fine. Luckily because I really love that mod example 1 : my mod without other mods active example 2 : the GTG mod being incompatible and even broken on my side, also without other mods active example 3 : my mod in combination with AR162B's mod working flawlessly, I spawned all dollies and several trailer configs Yes I was too lazy to move that dolly so at the end I got a little stuck If anyone else has a problem with the third axle of Gregory TheGamer's mod please feel free to let me know, it was working fine for me in 0.19 and I can't seem to find a reason for breaking it myself since I deactivated all other mods upon testing. Finally, if you report problems concerning my mod please make sure you are using the latest version of BeamNG.drive as well as the latest version of the mod itself. I guess you are using a realistic shift knob ? Try to replace the mod with this one below and see if it works. I can't test it myself, I have only push buttons on my controllers. instruction : take existing mod out of mods folder put zip file from this message in mods folder
Yes, few years ago I modified shifter for ETS and I use splitter and range selector switches. Knob version not work like a switch, just like a button. But anyway thank you very mutch for your great mod!
