Okay, don't get me wrong, I love the looks of what we're getting here. A prewar car with tons of potential configs? One that opens up a whole new precedent for mod content? An excuse to make period maps/story scenarios befitting prewar content? Yes please. But the thing I love the most about the teaser is the framing of the video. Jared is already a super charismatic developer, and we just don't see/hear enough from him. I'm picturing him becoming an analogue for Jace/Snutt from Coffee Stain making brief, skit-type teasers in between the static or technical ones.
Unpopular idea: So, everyone knows that old prewar cars are super underrated, specially in beamng. Last one we got was the racing gavril by Lordichii 2006 witch is sadly outdated, and the last proper one was the Heron car, properly updated last in 2016 (ignoring the lite refresh we got on it roughly a month or two ago) What I’m saying is that because of being unpopular and underrated, maybe the devs had an idea for a pre war car at first? There used to be / is tons of sketches / 3D models of cars published by beam officials all around the forums since the early days, tons of these cars never made it to the game, including all of the devs personal favorite model pack, with one exception of the hopper witch had the idea published way back in 2014. Maybe now the devs have a bit more time since then after improving the game so much, maybe they are getting back to their old ideas and making them come alive in beam or something? (Feeling like a pre war car’s idea was made in the head of the devs way back ago basically)
There was this post that Gabester made related to a pre-war car suggestion by PackardCaribien called the 1933 Bruckell Caporegime, way back in January of 2014, saying that he's always wanted to make some pre-war cars. Granted, Gabe hasn't been involved majorly with the game's development for a few years, but it still is proof that pre-war cars have been on the cards for a long while. I couldn't find the post, but I do remember seeing once that Gabe posted about having like, 20 unfinished car models back in September of 2015 - I think 16 of those got finished as cars in-game, so perhaps one of the four remaining ones was a pre-war car? I dunno.
Hmmm. Possibly this is what they meant by "Ye Olde BeamNG"? It was a car that gabester had planned but never finished?
That might be the case - although I think it's more in reference to how old the car is relative to most of the current roster. Gabester has shown off drawings before (like the Bruckell Albatross drawing from 2014), so perhaps these drawings are from him - or at least, took inspiration from some drawings he made a while ago?
While I don't think its the exact car Gabester drew, I'm sure gabester drew something similar a long time ago, either as part of BeamNG or even a rigs of rods concept.
The Moonhawk could also have a manual choke, especially its cheaper versions, with the 244CUI I6. And the gasoline 2.6 Air-Cooled I6-powered Stambecco could definitely have it too, since it's got triple carbs, and it could certainly improve its go-anywhere ability in colder climates. About our beloved 30s car, Bruckell could introduce the Straight-eight in its lineup before everyone else, but Gavril could answer with the first ever V8 (being the FoMoCo of BeamNG, in that sense). Of course, the Straight-eight wouldn't be able to sell this new car by itself, it would seem more appropriate to wealthy clients, Lens Flare Studios stars and Belasco City mobsters. So a more economical/less expensive to produce engine would make sense for the base of the lineup. Say a Straight-six, with two cylinders cut off the Straight-eight (kinda like when GM offered the first 6-cylinder engine in a low-priced car, in the late-20s). Finding adequate/appropriate sound samples for the Straight-eight would be a challenge indeed.
Ah, I forgot about the Stambecco - yeah, that could also have a manual choke on the petrol six. And I guess you're right about the L6 Moonhawk. And since there are sounds for an older L4, I don't think there'll be a straight-six for the Bruckell - it'll likely be an L4 and an L8, or maybe even just an L4, as similar cars of the period tended to have just one or two engine types (Chevrolet had an L6, Ford had an L4 and V-8, Dodge had an EDIT: L4, L6 and an L8). Of course, I could be wrong (and wouldn't mind an L6 as well), but as of recently, new vehicles have tended to have just one or two factory engines (the MD-Series has the 10.6L L6, the Aurata has the 900cc L3, the Wydra has the 800cc L3, the Stambecco has two L6s, the SP twins have two V8s each, and the Scintilla has the 5.0L V10). It's been almost five years since the FCV released, and few vehicles come close to the powertrain options that thing has. However, I say that, but Bruckell-group vehicles have tended to have great engine variety - the Lansdale's got six engines (including one of the few small diesels), the Wendover's got five - as does the Moonhawk - while the LeGran has four engines. The only one which sorta lacks options is the Bastion, and even that's got three options (all of which can be tuned quite extensively). So...we'll see. As for aftermarket options...sky's the limit. Since it's likely gonna be a Bruckell, it'll probably have either the modern Bruckell V8s or the classic Bruckell V8s as options - although the typical modern Gavril V8s are also swap options. It would be pretty funny to see it get the Civetta V10 as an engine swap - just so we have another car with that engine. EDIT: Nevermind - apparently, Dodge had an L4, L6, *and* L8 in 1932 (but only for that year - the four was dropped in 1933), so I guess it'd be perfectly fine for Bruckell to have all three options. (Not that I'm saying that Bruckell is based on Dodge - just that there's historical precedent for this happening.)
Normally I would respond that the engine simulation isn't detailed enough to warrant manual chokes, and they'd have to fudge the effects of it, but there was an interesting tidbit in the most recent automation little dev update: (look at 8:20 if the timestamp doesn't work) it appears that they're working on porting automation's fuel mapping and throttle calculations directly into beamng, which would open up a lot of possibilities around manual chokes and ignition timing. that being said, Killrob gives december as the earliest ETA for automation's 'Al Rilma' update (and let's just say they're not well known for releasing stuff ahead of schedule), so it's unlikely we'll see it done in time for it to be ported to BeamNG 0.34.
I was aware of this video and already watched it, but with the release of today's teaser, it now makes so much sense why the Beam devs would drop a pre-war car soon - it'd be the perfect car to demonstrate all of these different effects, if the Auriga Heron's anything to go off of.
WOW as someone who ADORES old cars. AND someone who is sad that the Bluebuck was the last old IRON car we got ( maybe the autobello van but i dont use it much ) And someone who is not into the off roaders ( again i REALLY respect them ) and same story with the van ( but i use it lots ) The last car i would go out and buy. was the bastion. ( remakes/remasters been top notch ) WELL anything beam does is. Seeing this 1920s/30s cars REALLY gives me lots and lots and lots of joy. , I ran the sketches in AI, cringe i know. but here they are. so you can laugh how bad it is. but i like them. hope for a half wooden body. Wonder how it will crash glad to get a old L_head engine for beam, Lovely. basic. cant wait to manage to get this to about 60 MPH ( about 100 kph ) With its 3 speed crash box. And then there will be hot rods. but am more into stock LOL , AGAIN as someone who ADORES anything pre 1978ish ( USA ) AND anything pre 2003 ( aussie cars ) Then this is IDEAL. After a few years of content that is REALLY well made with lots of love BUT is not my cup of tea. This is hands down. my best XMAS and birthday Gift, I wonder if it will be done for the 25th of dec. update ( well a few days before that lol ) best of luck dev team ( not that you need it ) AND once again thanks so much. even for the content that does not fit my taste. I hope you enjoy building this lovely car. PS sorry for the AI renders, i just felt like i had to
As much as I like the Heron, I'd argue that it's not proper because it has a modern truck frame. So the vanilla prewar car will likely be the first historically accurate one other than the Hank
sorry to seem mean to anyone But the Heron DOES fit the bill ( mostly ) love the brakes ( or lack there of ) I also love the engine ( even if it does needs some more detail ) BUT yeah it feels close very close to the 1920/30s and am gald to see it back. ( never knew it had a truck frame ) LOL The crash hard classic. is a very good try. BUT it feels under cooked, I still do love useing it however. AND the hank you working on its PURE art, I really really love the hank, This vanilla prewar car, Will be heaven, ( as well as the hank you working on ) ALSO i think there is a Ford model A getting worked on somewhere, A lore friendly one. Also i know they wont let REAL life brands on the repository, BUT brands that a long gone defunct are those okay ( no am not makeing one, no skills ) I.E REO, Packard, Cord ECT all the brands that surely now wont have copy right? Just asking lol
Thank you! I know the guy who is working on the Everton (The model A mod). He is really talented in all things historical, and actually has a Model A irl. I asked that question awhile back and was told that its not okay because the majority of those names are still owned, and even the few that aren't just to be safe about it
I'm loving this new pre-war car, hoping it has transverse leaf springs, more like Fords of the time, rather than the more "normal" longitudinal leaf springs. There is already a transverse leaf spring in the game, but only on one car, the Piccolina Drag/Gambler variant. I've been making hot rods out of the Hopper for a long time now, I hope this will be a lot better --- Post updated --- Also, congrats on that message number
