I found something that may start some intense speculation What is this: There is a Burnside logo by the short course track on the start line Explanation Please
I think it's them once again not-so-subtlely hinting that they're retconning the "defunct burnside" lore.
I feel that that poster of the Burnside is: Suggesting the return of the BRAND Burnside, implying that the 'Special' was a model I don't know, I'm just some forums idiot Maybe we will have the return of Burnside (the brand) with some modern cars Edit: The Burnside logo looks more modernized than the one on the Special
With the new map, I think one of the next vehicle will be some sort of 30's car that you can turn into a hotrod or other unique configs, I think it'd make sense in the way that we haven't had pre-60's vehicles in a while now
With the refreshed Burnside logo on the new Johnson Valley (Correct me if I’m wrong) I suppose it’d be more realistic to think of a car leaning towards the future - not the past. After all, this is just speculation, and there is no way of knowing exactly what’s to come. I do hope the next update brings more parts to the K-Series, both because this update already focused on off-road and because the only official vehicles with a “race theme” Is the Bolide, Scintilla, and the Pessima. Not to be confused with the pre-existing race configs, but these are all race configs that came along with a major update/hotfix
As promised, here is a look back on the community speculation for 0.27 compared to what actually came out, mixed in with some of my personal early impressions. Spoiler: Vehicle Speculation: Euro Van The second teaser for this vehicle pretty much cleared up all the speculation for this one, confirming that it's an Autobello counterpart to the Pinzgauer. Compared to the Pinzgauer the engine selection isn't exactly the same but it is similar. The engine is set pretty far back so this vehicle didn't need a snout nose facelift for the diesel engine. While it doesn't have the multiple oil pumps to prevent starvation like the Pinz has, @ARES IV pointed out that it is still oddly resilient to oil starvation No high powered engine swaps, which is pretty much the only thing preventing this from being my favorite vehicle in game. I would have so much fun with this thing on Johnson Valley if it could do some stupid speeds. Again on the lack of customization aspect, this vehicle has unique wheel selection. Kind of a bummer, no Donk Stambecco.... We never did get an RV or even a van life config, which was a surprise to many. Outside of the fire truck equipment this thing doesn't actually have any cargo slots, which seems like an oversight to me and means we still don't really have an non-American or proper off-road cargo hauler. One of the things I was most looking forward to was a cabster with flatbed upfit, which we didn't see. A cabster with various upfits would have made this a highly versatile vehicle. The spine chassis isn't exactly conducive to that layout so I get it, but this thing would've made one hell of a recovery vehicle/heist truck. Even just slapping a flat load floor on the pickup body's rear would at least give us some more space for cargo and a small car. I'd love to have a little Piccolina hauler. I want to point out how beautiful the textures and interior is. For those of you who never just take a look around or use the cabin view, I implore you to try it with this. The use of the trigger system is really well done in this vehicle. Being able to control the driveline options and TPMS with triggers is awesome. Special note here: The Stambecco has the option for a rear tow hook as well as the front pintle, both of which are currently useless. The Wydra also has an optional tow hook. While I ordinarily wouldn't pay attention to that front pintle and say it's just for looks and parallels the Pinzgauer, the inclusion on an optional tow hook on two vehicles suggests that something is planned for trailers soon. Spoiler: Vehicle Speculation: FPU XTV I must say, towards the end there I was thinking this would be a 0.27.1/0.28.0 release with us only having that one teaser of it. I'd love to know why they made this thing Polish. That seems really random. Poland does have a surprisingly healthy automobile industry with both domestic designs and local production of international automakers vehicles, this might not be the last we see of Poland. As glad as I am to see them get some representation, I can't help but feel like this is the second time the Maple Leafers have gotten cheated out of seeing representation. They still have a couple niches they could fill though. I was expecting this to be from an entire new brand of small recreational vehicles, but that devblog/forum description of it had me second guessing any additional vehicles from them (When are we going to see those lore backgrounds actually in game?..). Initially when I read it I thought to myself that this would be another one-off company (In the last year they actually got rid of most of those... Bruckell, Civetta, and Autobello all have multiple cars now. Cherrier still only has 1 platform but 2 cars on it and Cherrier has a ton of cool options for their next car, only leaving the luxury marques and Wentward as the one-offs). However, rereading the devblog I noticed that they didn't say FPU went bankrupt, just "nearly bankrupt". While ordinarily I don't like speculating on comments made in passing like that, it seems like an oddly specific detail to put in there. I don't think this is the last we will see of FPU. My initial thought was we would see a Sherp from them, but they ended up covering that niche with the Wydra (props to the devs for covering both niches with this vehicle like that). No 6x6 option, which surprised me, but it would've been pretty redundant anyway. @YellowRusty had some really great ideas which I linked to in the expectations post. I was definitely bummed to not see a stripped down track racer or trailers for it and really hope we see those in the future. That would be a really funny motorsport to include and the trailers would make this thing really useful for unique situations opposed to a just a novelty... Admittedly a really cool novelty though. Another Yellowrusty comment I want to bring attention to here. This thing really needs updates to the emergency response config, right now it's just a normal Wydra painted red... A few people on the update speculation thread recently suggested giving this an outboard motor to address the speed issue. I think this was the first of those suggestions. That is something that can be found on these IRL and definitely would be cool to see Just like the Stambecco, this thing has a unique wheel selection. I realize that they probably should be unique, but I'd love to see some universal counterparts. I've been begging for floaters for years now, and as I mentioned here some paddle tires would be useful elsewhere Overall I expected to never use this and would think it is kinda stupid, but honestly I adore this thing. It's so absurd that I can't help but giggle every time I drive it, and it has a really unique driving experience. It is more than just a novelty, but it needs some additions to keep it relevant once the excitement of a new vehicle wears off. Spoiler: Vehicle Speculation: Piccobuggy Again, this is mostly as expected. Largely because of the 0.26 leak though. I really wonder how wrong we would have all been about that initial teaser if it wasn't for the leak. I really was sure that we would see a hybrid of the unibody and these parts, like a more extreme but not full on Baja config. That of course didn't happen... This is I believe the third vehicle which is named after a real racing class, after the Group 5 Bolide and class 2 Pessima and tied with the spec/unlimited trophy truck. I'm really surprised they put this in the Piccolina vehicle selector. The engines really should be in the common folder (I wish all engines in game were for the sake of future proofing engine swaps, along with better nomenclature), which pretty much just leaves the doors from the Piccolina. One config I was sure of that we didn't actually see is a custom tarmac track weapon. I haven't tried making one myself yet, I gotta get around to it and see if this platform is any good for that. This thing is able to equip the full sized crawler tires, which looks absurd and I thoroughly recommend everyone do for giggles. I'm surprised there isn't an official config for it with how silly it is. This thing with the 44" tires and the SBR engine is an absolute riot. Spoiler: Vehicle Speculation: Tube Frame Rigs Another surprise to me: These things are separated in the vehicle selector. I guess in the end they don't share that much outside of some suspension bits. I'm still hoping that this sets a precedent for more extreme content in game, but I was hoping that the LeGran wagon would set a precedent for body styles and it only kind of did (since then we've only had targas and the MR Covet). The trophy truck is kind of named after classes ("unlimited" and "spec" are pretty generic but I guess we can still give it credit), which ties it for third IRL racing class in game. While the team doesn't seem to be prioritizing this, as important as it is for the sim racing side of the game, it's nice that the team at least remains open to it at times. We did see a stadium truck analog with the trophy truck, which is something I've been wanting to see since Bugbear got stadium truck tracks in Wreckfest. Sure it doesn't have that endearing slab-sided stubby look of IRL stadium trucks, but it's a great handling vehicle which opens up a new motorsport to the game. All we need is some existing tracks envisioned with ramp props now. As for the Rockbasher... This thing is just ridiculous, it's so insane to see something like this in game. I'm not an expert of off road classes, is this something that the team could have named as an ultra 4 if they wanted to and could without lawyers raising an eyebrow? Spoiler: Vehicle Speculation: Everything Else No remasters in this update, which for the most part is not surprising. The exception here is the K-Series... The team really doesn't tease stuff that far out, which leaves three options that I see.... It was cut from 0.27 due to lack of time It's going to be 0.27.1 content and release in the next 2 weeks It was intended for release with the tire thermal update, which the team thought would be this year but delayed I suspect it's a mix of the first and third option. With how massive 0.27 was I can't imagine we will see any content updates until the spring 0.28 update. With how big 0.27 was, it makes sense that anything not fitting the theme was an option to cut. The K-Series is one of my favorite cars, though the community generally dislikes it for being a low-end sports car with no customization. The thing really needs more content and higher performance, and a touring car would make a lot of sense while also pairing well with tire thermals. If tire thermals get delayed longer than 0.28 (which is more likely than not IMO) I don't think they would hold off on this for that long, but if the team initially thought tire thermals would be a short delay they could've put the K-Series on the backburner for a few months. Spoiler: Map Speculation Again, after the initial teaser or two and combined with the vehicle content it quickly became pretty obvious what this was. Definitely a unique and specialized map, but at the same time it does have some fair variety with the interstate and track. The salt flats are something I wish had a bit more TLC though. I love that they used the out-of-bounds parts of the map in ways that make it relevant to gameplay, but the road actually did get some love while the salt flats just straight up feels like you're out of the map bounds and somewhere you shouldn't be. Opening up the border fence a bit more and placing some props like another isolated pits would've done wonders for this area. They put props on the out of bounds road, I don't see why they can't for the salt flats. This opens up a spot for another unique form of motorsport that you don't see in games and some really awesome vehicle content, I hope they don't let it go to waste and miss out on the opportunity here. No sign on a cliff map or automation map remaster still We are right back to where we were a few months ago with no idea what the future for BeamNG map content is. With how long maps take to make and how quiet the team has been post-Italy the future state of map content is a huge question mark. TDev mentioned he had hopes for map content including huge levels and deformable terrain. Will the team focus on R&D for a while, or split their recourses for R&D and content both? Will we see some dedicated race track maps (which career mode and the sim racing community both really need) or more of the same 10-20 sqkm general gameplay maps? Spoiler: Everything Else No sign of ropeables still, that would've been a great pairing with the off road update and a utility truck. The full ignition system actually did make it in, which is great to see No sign of aero, not surprising No sign of mud/scratches. While the team did say to expect something soon, that was a very vague comment and we haven't seen anything since. Again, this would've been good to pair with this update though No sign of tire thermal/flat spots system other than the closing remarks in the dev blog. Delays aren't surprising since this is such a complicated system that the team has openly had worries about for years now. The devblog didn't say this is being given up on or even going on the back burner, rather that work will continue but the public shouldn't look for any expected release dates. I'm still hopeful, but not looking at any release dates for awhile. @Acrain7 was right about the improved lights, they do look beautiful. I've noticed a lot of people complaining about the game's sky and color pallet lately, which I haven't before this update. That seems like a weird thing for everyone to suddenly be focusing on, though I certainly wouldn't complain about nicer looking skies. Still, the game looks incredible now even on medium graphics. It's incredible to compare the game today to this time 2 years ago. New suspension simulation is a welcome surprise No mention of ABS in the changelog and only a passing mention to cleaning up Torquescript files Some new sound items, including that V8 Very few vehicles have under glow still (including the Scintilla, even though it looked like it would in the release trailer), triggers are still only for a few vehicles, walking mode still needs some improvements and uses... I'm really hoping the team circles back to some of these items soon, We saw some small gameplay additions. The new "catch-them all" collectible missions are great to see; the example version from WCUSA was a ton of fun but the team never really did anything with that until now. I'm honestly surprised to see that they are updating the career mode sneak peak. Hopefully they continue to do that, it is a ton of fun and that team seems to be going in a really good direction with it Overall this was a jaw-dropping update, the team really knocked it out of the park here. Cheers, and looking forward to what 2023 will bring to the game and community. I hope the team all has a long and refreshing holiday break to celebrate the year in closing, they all certainly deserve it. Once we see the first proper 0.28 teaser I'll make another teaser tracking/expectations post.
My early Drawing of the Stambecco Vs the released version... Back then we still thought is was gonna be a ETK XD I did a little editing on the ingame one.. sadly we have no colorable fascias and mirrors
Dud That was a real joy to read! I really like your ideas, you summarised the most important stuff, looking forward for your next expectations post Ps: I wonder if a dev actually reads all of this, I hope they do
i think maybe theres a chance the abs rework and the tire thermals could come in the same update? running with the race update idea the new etk parts that were shown off seem like potential gt3/gt4 spec parts which are series that run abs irl, if we get a car to those rules it'd make sense to show off the new abs system that way
I didn't even think of that, modern electronics are really important to properly pull off a modern GT car
Spoiler: Replies to Manfred What's even more surprising is that there's an excellent ambulance body for an RV conversion on the Stambecco. Stuff a few interior bits into there, cut out some windows, and bam - new converted RV. It wouldn't even need a new body - it'd just be an upfit. Hopefully, an official RV comes out sometime before the full career mode, but it's not looking like an RV's in the works yet - it looks like the camper trailer covers the "RV" sector. I guess this could happen, but it seems like the devs finished making trailers a long time ago. I guess it was because Ai'Torror made the Wydra, and he is Polish. But yeah, it is odd that Canada still doesn't have a vehicle for it. There are options, though, like a Bricklin- or Felino CB7- esque car. I think a not-Felino might be a bit too rare and a bit too close to the K-Series to really happen, but a Bricklin/DeLorean thing would be rather interesting. There's also the second-gen Ford GT and the HTT supercar - a mix of those two could be quite fun, but we've already got the Scintilla for modern supers. As for not-quite-so-supercar routes, Intermeccanica makes 356-esque kit cars - some of which are electric - but...ehh, maybe not that either. Speaking of electric cars, there's also the Dynasty IT. A medium-duty truck would open so many possibilities for Canadian vehicles in-game, like cash-in-transit vehicles and other armored vehicles - just rip off the stock truck body and slap on a new one. A classic Formula car from the Great White North would be a fun option, too - and it'd cover another vehicle archetype. Other than that, Canada's big bus industry is pretty much covered by the Wentward. The devs seem to be rather...tentative about adding lore in-game outside of the Gavril vehicles - when the '96 Pessima was remastered, it and the '88 briefly had chassis codes of VM501 and VM301, respectively, but those got quickly removed. I'm guessing this is so they can finalize all the lore for the full release? I'm not quite sure. Speaking of trailers, we haven't had any all-new ones in over 5 years - the last time new trailers were added was in update 0.10 (the box utility trailers). And I agree that the Wydra could easily get those added - they'd make it even more useful for career mode, too. This also surprised me, but as you said - a RWD trophy truck being based off a 4WD rock bouncer does sound quite odd. They're also massively different in size - the Rockbasher's body is under 4 m long, while the Dunekicker's over 5 m long. I suppose this update was a "first taste" at non-production vehicles, to see if people enjoy having them in-game - and while the Stambecco's the new favorite vehicle of quite a lot of people I've no idea why the map team are way quieter than the vehicle team - maybe because new vehicles are more exciting than new maps to many people, and vehicles take less time to make than maps. It's been well over 4 years since we last got a dedicated race track map (ATT). I would say that's because the devs think that race tracks are too single-use for such a varied game, but we just got four non-street-legal purpose-built off-roaders along with a heavily off-road-focused map last update - a dedicated race track map with some dedicated race cars is now a distinct possibility. We're also getting a lot more "spec-built" production-based race cars ('96 Pessima Touring Car, for instance), instead of the usual "slap race parts and lots of power in a vehicle" ('88 Pessima Race) that we'd get before, so a purpose-built race car is even more likely. Wow, that is very close! Great job on that! Another thing I'd like to add onto here - the vehicle selector's now been switched from model name first, cars before trucks to brand, then model. Perhaps this could mean that we're going to be getting a brand -> vehicle -> version -> trim selector, or some other multi-tier selector? The vehicle list is starting to get quite hefty, and some vehicles (like the D/H/Roamer) have so many frames and facelifts, the current vehicle selector can't really handle them too well. The Charro's really lacking for official configs (it has five, seven if you count the Kentarchs), since it's sandwiched in the middle of 16 other frames. However, there are also quite a lot of brands - 13 in total - and with 34 vehicles, that's about 3 vehicles per brand. I don't think that kind of multi-tier selector idea is happening any time soon - if at all, since there's already a bunch of ways to sort vehicles in-game.
