Hey all, anybody aware of when or if Beamng will be available on IOS mac? I have a crap Windows laptop so manage to play the game but its pretty hard too. Shame not able to use it on my Mac
If you download Boot Camp on your Mac, you can download BeamNG on the Windows drive. Once you download it, you restart your laptop and hold option to swap between the two. https://support.apple.com/boot-camp
There is no plan on having it on Mac unfortunately and I don't think Mac has the power to run the game.
BeamNG is a very hardware-demanding game, so it would not be able to perform well on Macs, and would not run on any mobile device at all. There might be a MacOS version in the future, but the devs are only focusing on Windows currently.
You could always try Bootcamp, but I don't know if you can allocate enough resources to run the game.
There are already many threads explaining the technical and logistical issues of getting the game on other platforms.
Can you link to any threads discussing the problems with porting to other platforms like Linux and macOS?
Mac is not nearly powerful enough to run this game, macs are not meant for gaming, and can not run most games.
Just google it, it feels like it gets asked like once a week on this forum alone, let alone reddit and steam forums. https://www.beamng.com/threads/beamng-for-mac.37487/ https://wiki.beamng.com/BeamNG_FAQ#...e_Mac.2FLinux.2FXbox.2FPlayStation_support.3F MAC playing on a mac Mac OS Compatibility Download for mac Beamng on linux?!? I ran BeamNG.drive on an entry level 2017 Macbook Pro awhile back with Windows installed via Bootcamp. Lowest settings, 720p resolution, I was able to hold playable frame-rates from between 30 to 60 FPS. I imagine a newer, better equipped Macbook Pro with Windows installed could do significantly better. There won't be any official support for macOS or Linux, since that would require significant reworking of a significant amount of the game code, for very little player base gain. And for iOS/Android, same reasons as above, along with the fact that I'm not certain most, if any mobile devices even have the computational power to run BeamNG.drive.
I am currently on a 2018 Macbook Pro, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 processor (8850H), 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 and Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB running Windows using Bootcamp. I run BeamNG.drive on Normal settings with all effects (except reflections) on 1920x1080 (external monitor). With a max of around 7 cars, I get a consistent 40+ fps. I'm posting this here for a frame of reference for some people. Newer iMacs and MacBooks can in fact run BeamNG without a problem. Edit: I have 128 car mods installed, I don't know if that has an impact performance...
Game might not be so heavy to run as some think, well as long as you indeed use normal graphics, no ssao or reflections, that already allows game to run quite well on most computers that have any kind of gaming grade GPU, like 1050Ti or better. Number of cars is bit complex then, using copies of same car runs better than using all different cars, but with recent game versions 4 cars or less should be fine for even 6th gen i3, Italy though might be bit tough for such CPU and number of cars. If accepting under 60fps (always should aim for 60fps as game is super smooth with vsync on at 60fps), then in terms of hardware pretty much anything recent should be able to run game. Most laptops are designed for only short time maximum load in cooling, they want to make those thin and cooling suffers, it was not great before the thin fashion either. So I guess some people here might confuse macs and macbooks. For this game, good cooling is essential as especially with traffic mod there are more cores working than on some games, that will then be more heat produced and as physics are AVX load, that tends to heat up CPU even more, add quite high GPU load to that with more than 1 hour gameplay and importance of cooling becomes apparent.
That might. have an effect. I'm actually surprised- Apple is finally making up-to-spec computers. Still at outrageous prices, but nonetheless...
bullshit, I've been playing on a mac for almost half a year now. 60fps@high settings @1440p. Anyhow, in order to play BeamNG.drive on a Mac, you must "Bootcamp" your iMac, to have Windows as a secondary OS. After that you can just use it as both a windows and a mac computer, meaning that if you boot in Windows you can do all the sweet stuff. I will write a forum post soon, on how to do this and stuff, but have exams first --- Post updated --- I've played on a macbook pro too, and ain't gonna lie, it was good. The throttling was not that extreme tbh, about a 6fps drop after an hour. It was on a stand though, that could've made a difference
Any cooling pad under laptop can do big help on game like this as air might actually move a bit then. To my knowledge Macs have just normal CPUs, ram etc. Probably GPUs too today, so it is no wonder Macs run game fine, as long as there is enough cooling, which in some cases might be bit of limited kind because of designed thermal load can be for typical use only and not for extreme loads, but this varies a lot from laptop model to model too. Once I had HP that just throttled, even booting to windows made it to throttle, fan was screaming, but not much air moved, that was because of way it was designed, there was about 1mm gap between solid bottom of laptop (no any vents) and fan, so fan did suck air trough ram slot and other seams and with that about 1mm or maybe bit less of gap there was not much suctioning happening. Any resistance on intake side of fan is totally killing the airflow and makes ton of noise as fan is trying to make vacuum which it can't really make because fan is not designed for that, then it just makes air go around and around doing mostly noise and tiny bit of heat, causing minimal airflow. I think that design of cooling system is one thing to focus on when looking for a laptop, no matter what brand and make it is as they do like to make those barely enough setups at times.
